EN-303 Smart In-Line Dryer Veneer Moisture Contents Control System
 



 

Main Features

  • Apply industrial computerised system to continuously & automatically control the speed of Net Dryer that brings an accurate desired veneer Moisture Content at Output Dryer, & conform to the pre-set output veneer MC range for different glue type (i.e. MR Glue: 14~16%, Type-1 Glue: 12~14%, WBP Glue: 10~12%).
  • Uses computerised speed control system to synchronise between Dryer Output Conveyor speed and Dryer Net speed so as to ensure the veneer is always in normal position, and cause no veneer split during high speed operation!

Introduction

EN-303 is a “Smart” & knowledge-base computer system that combines various sophisticated mathematical models to effectively, continuously & automatically control the speed of Net Dryer “In-Line” with the veneer drying process so as to bring an accurate desired output veneer Moisture Content, & conform to the pre-set MC range for different glue type!

In general, it reads and collects (through sensors & detectors) all required drying variables such as initial input veneer MC, veneer thickness, veneer species, room temperature, temperature & humidity of drying medium and pre-set MC range. All these data are then fit into various mathematical models reside in EN-303 knowledge-base program, and calculation begins. The results of the calculation are then converted into control signal that controls the drying rate of the veneer.

In fact, most of the existing veneer MC control of the conventional type Dryer is largely depends on the experience of the Operators! This improper drying-control technique causes the following undesired consequences:

  • Degrade in veneer quality.
  • Lost in veneer recovery as over-dry veneer shrink significantly.
  • Increase in glue consumption as over-dry veneer absorb larger amount of glue.
  • Considerable amount of energy is wasted due to low machine efficiency, and possibly veneer re-drying.
  • Magnify the overall production costs.
In shorts, improper control of veneer MC tends to add cost to the product, and cause problems in subsequence manufacturing process.

With EN-303, all the above shortcomings are properly under control.

Major contributions of EN-303 are:
  • Obtain desired (pre-set) output veneer Moisture Content that prevents veneer from under-drying or over-drying.
  • Significant increase in productivity by:
    1. Optimising the Dryer efficiency.
    2. Reducing the rate of veneer re-drying.
    3. Minimising the lost time due to the changing of veneer with large thickness difference.
  • Gain higher veneer quality/grade by obtaining a perfect drying results with no under-drying or over-drying.
  • Increase in veneer recovery by:
    1. Maintaining desired output Moisture Content, & thus minimising veneer contraction. A smaller amount of veneer contraction will bring higher output volume, & thus higher recovery.
    2. Preventing veneer from re-drying. Re-dried veneer normally needs to be composed, which faces first-cut & end-cut lost. Besides, its veneer wavy problem causes veneer clipping lost at Auto-Clipper. This will definitely decreases veneer recovery.
  • Saves in glue application by ensuring veneer output Moisture Content falls within the desired range. In fact, only over-drying veneer will absorb larger amount of glue!
